The best FPL midfielders in the 6M price category

One of our twitter followers had a question regarding cheap midfielders, so here’s a list of players I’d consider right now. These ideas are based on the FPL Fixture Tracker, which means I have left out some public picks I think are doomed selections. It’s all about the potential in the future matches. The fixture tracker lists the next 6 gameweeks, which is the period we’re looking at here.

ARS / Xhaka 5.6m (selected by 14.5%)

Xhaka is a regular starter in a top team with 4th highest goal scoring potential. There’s a very bad fixture coming up at GW 5 (Chelsea at away), but after that it starts to look very nice for Arsenal. He’s still selected by too many managers, but maybe a bad defeat at Stamford Bridge would bring those percentages down.

LEI / Albrighton 5.5m (2.7%)

Leicester fixtures start to improve dramatically after horror openers (ARS, MUFC, CFC). Albrighton is cemented to the wing and we know his assist potential from previous seasons. He’s selected by just 2.7% managers right now and a true differential.

LFC / Can 5.0m (7.4%)

Emre Can is a guaranteed starter in a top team with decent fixtures in sight. He has 2G+1A from the previous 5 matches and we know Can can get those wonder goals every now and then. I don’t like the 7.4% selection percentage, though. He’s not my absolute favorite in this list, but 5.0m is a very nice price.

BUR / Brady 5.5m (1.8%)

The crossing king of PL has three very nice fixtures coming up at home vs HUD, WES, NEW. Be smart who to rotate Brady with, for example WBA or Bournemouth midfielder would do nice. Amazingly, still selected only by 1.8% of managers.

NEW / Ritchie 5.9m (2.4%)

Many gave up with him after the opening two rounds – only to see Ritchie pick up an assist in the following two matches. Newcastle fixtures are decent compared to all other lower-half teams. He gets chances from set pieces too and 2.4% is a nice percentage. However, 5.9m is quite a lot if you compare that to some bigger names.

SWA / Fer 5.5m (0.6%)

Fer has quite shockingly 4G + 2A in the previous 9 matches he has started for Swans. Don’t pick him for GW5 yet, but decent fixtures coming up at GW6,7,8,9. Fer is only selected by 0.6% of the managers making him a proper differential.

WBA / Phillips 6.0m (2.6%)

The good old Matt Phillips has 1G + 4A in his previous 11 Albion matches. Can’t say this guy is at the peak of his form, but there are two very nice home fixtures coming up: WBA-WES and WBA-WAT. Note how WBA fixtures start to go sour after GW7, so if you want to do a little pump-and-dump it’s fine. But I don’t see why Phillips would be in my team after GW7.

I’m leaving many players out I think have simply such a bad potential in terms of fixtures (such as Richarlison), but mentioning this guy anyway:

STK / Choupo-Moting 5.5m

I think he’s a great choice after some time but not right now, because there are four very bad fixtures coming up. Same goes for Shaqiri, who looks a better option to me than Jese. Be smart and let the hype train go! There will be a time for Stoke players but not just yet.
