FPL Gameweek 13 captain pick

The FPL gameweek 13 captain pick is an easy choice: Erling Haaland. Manchester City has by far the highest expected goals of any team this week. Also, Leeds has become gradually worse as the season has progressed. They don’t look as tight defensively as before. The third point is that Haaland was rested for half of the midweek match.

If you are not using the Free Hit chip this week, it’s an excellent opportunity to use the Triple Captain chip. We recommend using the Free Hit Chip this week and triple up on Man City and Brentford. These tips are written from the perspective of an FPL manager who is not using any chips.

Man City

  • LB O’Reilly: Nico O’Reilly looks like a great option in defense. Only Haaland has more FPL points in Man City than O’Reilly. His LB position seems cemented in PL, especially after being rested in midweek. O’Reilly has 0.21 xGI per 90, which is an excellent number for a defender.
  • AM Foden: City have fantastic fixtures, and Foden is the safest midfielder in terms of minutes. He actually has 0.40 xGI per 90, which is not too bad. Foden has been unlucky not to get more attacking returns lately. Foden is a safer option than Doku.
  • CF Haaland: Haaland had 1.54 xG against Newcastle despite blanking. He is producing monstrous xG numbers every week! So far, Haaland has scored 14 goals from 12.6 xG, which means his numbers are pretty much justified.

Liverpool

  • Liverpool have great fixtures, but none of the players seem worth picking in FPL. We like Gakpo, but he’s only good for a Free Hit team, because Wirtz will be back soon. Szoboslai has four yellow cards and plays as a right-back, while Salah is too expensive. If you are using Free Hit, Gakpo and Salah are good punts for one round.

Arsenal

  • We don’t recommend moving in any Arsenal players ahead of the Chelsea matches. Whether it’s a defender or an attacker, you should postpone those moves.

Brentford

  • CF Thiago: Igor Thiago is a fantastic FPL pick. He’s probably the second-best attacker after Haaland. You get 0.69 xGI per 90 at 6.5m plus guaranteed minutes and penalties. Thiago has already scored nine goals. On top of that, Brentford is also facing Burnley this week.
  • Note: Other Brentford players are great options if you are using the Free Hit chip, but not worth picking otherwise.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have a pretty nice fixture coming up: a very volatile Manchester United is followed by Burnley away. I feel Sarr and Mateta are still solid picks, even if Mateta was subbed off early in the previous match. They are both getting so many chances. However, Sarr’s numbers are declining slightly. If he doesn’t start to return in the next two matches, I’m considering selling. I think you should still triple-up on Palace. If you don’t want Sarr, any of the centre-backs, or Munoz, are great options. It depends on the budget you have available.

Chelsea

Since Chelsea meets Arsenal on GW 13, there’s no point picking these players now. Any transfers you are planning can wait one week.

Everton

There is still a lot of value in Everton’s defense. Toffees proved their resilience at Old Trafford as well. Keane is the go-to defender for sure; he’s matching Tarkowski in DC and seems to be getting more attacking returns. There is no reason to go for any other defender. I don’t see Ndiaye as a value pick, even though he is such a talisman in this team. Everton is just too low-scoring, and there are many good mid-priced midfielders to choose from.

Brighton

I keep mentioning the Brighton pair, Minteh and Welbeck. Minteh got two assists again last week and keeps producing the goods. He’s a great pick at just 6.1m. Welbeck, I’m not so sure about, because we enter the busy X-mas period. He’s been traditionally rotated quite a lot, and there is a risk he won’t start the GW 14 midweek match.
