The Premier League continues this week with the start of GW14. There are lots of good options for all budgets at both ends of the pitch and this article will run through some of the players who are hoping for a great week
FPL gameweek 14 preview – attacking potential
Chelsea vs Fulham
Chelsea will be looking to put in a impressive performance after their first league loss of the season to Tottenham at Wembley, where they were picked apart for most of the game. Fulham won their first game under the reign of Claudio Ranieri, but conceding two goals against Southampton, who had only scored two in their previous five games, proves that they are still very sketchy at the back.
Ranieri will look to install his philosophy over the coming weeks, but with the short time he’s had at the club so far, improvement and taking points of Chelsea will prove a hard test. Additionally, this match is a West London Derby, and Chelsea’s attackers will look to come back with a bang against their rivals. The obvious option is Eden Hazard, however at 11.1M, he will be hard to incorporate into any team. Cheaper options may be Morata or Willian, who has scored three and assisted four this season.
Liverpool vs Everton
Another Derby takes place this weekend over in Merseyside, with fierce rivals Liverpool and Everton clashing at Anfield. The Reds have look great so far this season, and they are currently unbeaten in the league. Everton have had an alright defensive start to the season, but still look slightly weak at the back, and with Liverpool’s great attacking trio, goals are highly likely for
Liverpool, who have scored in every one of their games this season, other than a 0-0 draw with league leaders Manchester City. Liverpool have also netted an impressive eleven goals in their last five league games. It is hard to look past one of the front three of Salah, Mane and Firmino, all of whom are over 9m, but Shaqiri could prove an outside option finding the goal twice this season, as well as assisting on four occasions.
FPL gameweek 14 preview – defensive potential
Crystal Palace vs Burnley
Crystal Palace’s last two games have been against top six sides Tottenham and Manchester United, in which they only conceded one goal. An impressive clean sheet draw against United will have put there defence on many FPL manager’s watchlists. Adding to this defensive potential, Burnley look a much weaker side than last season where they qualified for the Europa League Qualifies. Currently they are in 17th place, having already conceded twenty-seven goals this season.
With Palace being at home and coming of the impressive draw with United, they will look to keep a clean sheet against Sean Dyche’s Burnley side, who have only scored four goals in their last five games. There are several options in Palace’s defence, including budget option Aaron Wan-Bissaka at 4.2M and Patrick Van Aanholt, who could also return attacking points too as he constantly makes his way up his wing.
Newcastle vs West Ham
Despite a poor start to the season, Newcastle have now won their last three games, whilst only conceding two goals in their last four games. After not winning for the first three months of the season, Newcastle have gone on a spirited run and look to have an identity again. West Ham conceded four in their last game against Manchester City, and haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven games.
West Ham are still not finding goals regularly, and at St James’ Park, Newcastle will be looking to add three points to their growing total. Pacey right-back DeAndre Yedlin could be a solid option, as could Federico Fernandez. Additionally, with Newcastle facing Everton, Newcastle, Huddersfield and Fulham after their clash with West Ham, there defence could provide consistent points throughout the coming weeks.
