Double gameweek decided

The Aston Villa vs. Liverpool fixture has been moved from GW 29 to GW 25 due to Liverpool reaching the EFL Cup finals.

Captain selection

The captain selection couldn’t be easier at GW 25: Mo Salah. Liverpool has a double gameweek, with one of the fixtures being a home match vs. Wolves. Even if Liverpool didn’t have this double fixture, Salah was still the best captain option. There is no reason to consider any other player as captain this week.

Liverpool

Liverpool had a hard-fought win over Bournemouth. Salah scored both goals, and Gakpo got an assist for getting the penalty. It was terrible news for Trent’s owners because he was forced to leave the pitch due to an injury. However, he got enough minutes to earn the clean sheet.

Picks: CB Konate, RB Alexander-Arnold, RW Salah, CF Gakpo. It is unlikely that there are readers who don’t have three Liverpool players already. If you don’t, you are making a big mistake. The only exception that can be accepted would be that you are using the third slot as an assistant manager. Trent + Salah + Gakpo is the optimal trio if you are not activating the assistant manager chip. I’d sell Trent if you want to make room for Arne Slot.

If you want Trent, you should wait until the deadline. Liverpool will face Everton before that, and this match will indicate his fitness. If Trent is doubtful, I’d go for Konate, who gives a cheaper route to Liverpool’s defense. Konate is a secure starter, but Van Dijk doesn’t offer enough extra attacking potential to warrant a higher price.

Since everyone has Salah, we can move to Cody Gakpo. He looks like a sure starter and hasn’t missed a place in the starting XI in big matches in a long time. Gakpo has attacking returns in four games in all competitions and 12 attacking returns (8G, 4A) in 13 starts in all competitions. It’s great that he’s a forward in FPL because there are so many great mid-price options for midfield.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa suffered again from a Champions League hangover and lost deservedly to Wolves at away. However, they defeated Celtic 4-2 in the Champions League the same week, and Morgan Rogers scored a hat trick.

Picks: Emery (assistant manager). I have had Morgan Rogers on my team since the first gameweeks, and I see no reason to sell him. He starts every match when fit, and the hat trick vs. Celtic shows how much damage he can do on a good day. Rogers has 0.31 xGI per 90, which is decent for a player in this price bracket (5.0m-5.5m). However, I wouldn’t purchase him or any other Villa players now, even with a double GW 25.

As you can see from our Fixture tool, the goal-scoring potential for Villa is not great for the next gameweeks. They will also certainly blank at GW 29, while other cheap midfielders and forwards will not. The second problem is the transfer window. Villa have signed players like Malen, Asensio, and Rashford, who compete for the same spots.

However, Unai Emery is a great assistant manager option. You get the easy home fixture vs. Ipswich combined with the Liverpool home match, where a table bonus is available. Villa only needs a draw against Liverpool to give you tons of points. They have about a 45 % chance of doing this. I did this transfer myself!

Chelsea

Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over London rivals West Ham. It wasn’t still the best performance we’ve seen from this team. Palmer got an assist to the winning goal that took a wild deflection from a West Ham defender.

Picks: AM Cole Palmer. Surprisingly, many FPL managers have sold Cole Palmer recently, but this makes no sense. First, Chelsea is ranked number two in expected goals for the next six gameweeks. Fantastic home fixtures are coming up soon. The man has 22 attacking returns (14G, 8A) in 24 matches with 0.80 xGI per 90. Since everyone has Salah already, who are you selling him for? I think Palmer is as essential as ever. He is also a bonus point magnet.

No one else looks interesting in Chelsea. They are ranked only sixth in expected clean sheets, so there is no current value. The following two fixtures are also away matches. Nicolas Jackson was a great pick in the first half of the season, but he is not scoring goals anymore.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth had a great match against league leaders Liverpool but lost 0-2 nonetheless. Cherries had great chances to score when the game was still 0-0 and 0-1 but were unlucky. An unbeaten run of 11 games came to an end.

Picks: CB Huijsen, AM Kluivert, LW Django. Bournemouth have fantastic fixtures coming up. They are ranked third in expected goals and clean sheets for the next six gameweeks. The following two fixtures are against Southampton away and Wolves at home. You should have a Bournemouth defender and a midfielder.

The defender choice is pretty straightforward. Kerkez is the attacking left-back and has a premium in his price. However, Kerkez only has 0.10 xGI per 90 to show for it. Huijsen is a CB and a massive threat on set pieces. He has 0.16 xGI per 90. Yet, Huijsen costs 0.5m less than Kerkez. It makes no sense to pick Kerkez now. I have Kerkez since I’ve had him from the beginning of the season when his price was only 4.5m.

The midfielder choice is tricky. Kluivert, Semenyo, and Django are all great options. Semenyo used to be the go-to player in Bournemouth, but many fancy Kluivert because he is on penalties. And Bournemouth seems to be getting a ton of them. Kluivert has 0.62 xGI per 90, which is fantastic for a midfielder. However, he costs 5.9m, and Django Outtara gives you almost the same output with just 5.0m. This is the reason I went for Django instead. He’s the one who plays as number nine when all centre-forwards are missing.

Arsenal

Arsenal thrashed Manchester City 5-1 on home soil, which was a significant win. Gunners have played months without losing a game in the Premier League and won’t let Liverpool run too far away in the title race. Kai Haverts had two attacking returns.

Picks: GK Raya, CB Gabriel. Arsenal are ranked number one in clean sheets with a clear margin. They have fantastic fixtures, with Leicester and West Ham coming next, and Raya and Gabriel are great long-term picks for those looking for solid defensive options. I had to sell Raya a week ago because I wanted to release some funds, and it was a great entry point for Everton GK Pickford with a double gameweek at GW 24. However, Gabriel is going nowhere.

Other Arsenal players don’t look interesting. No one is delivering attacking returns the way Saka was doing. Havert is not a horrible pick at 7.8m, considering he has 0.54 xGI per 90. I’d much rather spend 6.1m on Wissa and 7.6m on Gakpo. It isn’t easy to pick Havertz over these guys.

Manchester City

Manchester City were well beaten by Arsenal and lost 1-5 at Emirates. Haaland scored the only goal.

Picks: None. I don’t see any value in this Man City team. They are indeed improving, and Haaland is also scoring goals. But the Norwegian isn’t simply worth his massive price tag. Haaland should get two attacking returns in a game to make it worth the price. His selection limits your options elsewhere, and you wouldn’t captain him over Salah anyway. Makes no sense.

I think Phil Foden is a more interesting choice. However, he has the same xGI per 90 as Bournemouth duo Kluivert & Django, who cost millions less. Why would you rather have Foden than Kluivert? Also, City is facing Newcastle and Liverpool next, which are tough opponents – even on home soil. Omar Marmoush is a potential pick for the season’s final rounds at a 7.0m price tag. He has a decent 0.37 xGI per 90, but this has to increase until he looks like a player I’d like to buy.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace had a great result at Old Trafford with a 0-2 win. Mateta continued his fantastic form with two goals, and RB Munoz assisted the second goal. We recommended Munoz in our GW 24 tips!

Picks: RB Munoz. Crystal Palace is ranked second in clean sheet odds for the next six gameweeks. They have fantastic CS opportunities, starting with a home fixture against Everton. Munoz has the third-most xGI of all defenders in the Premier League; only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Josko Gvardiol are ahead of him. He has six attacking returns this season with 0.26 xGI. What is your excuse for not having Munoz for this fixture run? He costs just 4.8m.
